Abstract
L'étude qui suit porte sur la famille acadienne telle que nous l'avons observée dans un village de la Nouvelle-Ecosse et dont nous cherchons à décrire les aspects les plus caractéristiques. Dans une première partie, consacrée à la structure de la « maisonnée », nous considérons la composition du ménage, les activités de subsistance, la structure de l'autorité et les règles de succession. Une seconde partie traite des relations familiales qui constituent l'infrastructure de l'ensemble du système de parenté : nous abordons successivement les relations d'alliance (époux-épouse), les relations de filiation (parents-enfants) et les relations des enfants entre eux. Dans un troisième temps, nous exposons brièvement les techniques de socialisation des enfants. Nous complétons ces observations en dégageant les principaux changements survenus dans la structure et dans les relations familiales depuis le début du siècle.
