Abstract
Les nobles français qui se sont installés ou qui ont vécu au Canada forment un groupe social qui reste mal connu. Il a fait l’objet de débats historiographiques acharnés dans les années 1960 et 1970 puis il est tombé dans un relatif oubli dont il commence à présent à sortir. Les travaux les plus récents incitent à réexaminer les origines de ces nobles de la vallée du Saint-Laurent et à relever leurs spécificités au sein du second ordre français. Les trajectoires sociales et les comportements des quelques dizaines de famille qui composent la noblesse canadienne montrent alors une fluidité et une capacité d’adaptation à un milieu spécifique qui incitent à reconsidérer l’évolution de la noblesse française dans son ensemble.
