Le Domaine de Graveyron, situé sur la rive orientale du bassin d’Arcachon, est un ensemble de marais maritimes endigués couvrant une superficie de 135 ha. Ce site, qui a été racheté par le Conservatoire du Littoral en 1998, présente une grande richesse écologique et paysagère. En effet, il abrite des espèces végétales protégées, comme le Triglochin barrelieri et sert de lieu de refuge et de reproduction pour de nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux. Mais les digues qui entourent le Domaine se détériorent et la partie frontale du marais est submergée lors des marées hautes. Plusieurs simulations réalisées à partir d’un modèle numérique de terrain montrent que l’élévation du niveau marin pourrait entraîner la submersion de l’ensemble du Domaine d’ici la fin du siècle. Une des conséquences pourrait être la substitution du marais salé au marais doux et donc une perte de la biodiversité végétale. Cependant, nous ne pouvons pas exclure le fait que les flux sédimentaires autour du marais puissent contribuer à la reconstitution du schorre et ainsi, contrecarrer les effets submersifs de la montée de l’océan.
