Abstract
L’auteur propose un type d’analyse visant à cerner en quoi les oeuvres des communautés religieuses ont laissé des traces structurantes dans notre culture. L’hypothèse heuristique sous-jacente est qu’il y a, provenant de ces oeuvres, un formatage matriciel qui est encore opérant dans nos façons de penser, de dire et d’aménager les choses, voire dans nos institutions. L’auteur rappelle d’abord, par mode d’analogie, en quoi les héritages grec, romain et chrétien façonnent toujours la culture occidentale. Il propose ensuite d’appliquer le même type d’« archéologie culturelle » à l’héritage des communautés religieuses et suggère quelques pistes à explorer dans cette perspective, notamment dans les domaines de l’éducation et des services sociaux.
