Abstract
L'historiographie traditionnelle nous a légué l'image stéréotypée d'un peuple néerlandais apathique et ordonné. Un peuple incapable d'actions collectives violentes. Pourtant, les recherches précises sur l'époque 1806-1813 démontrent que celle-ci a été ponctuée de troubles et d'émeutes. Les nouveautés introduites par Louis Napoléon ou Napoléon Ier n'ont pas laissé les Bataves indifférents. Ils se sont opposés de bien des manières à tout ce qui menaçait leur liberté et leur autonomie, ce qui ne veut pas dire non plus que ces protestations expriment des valeurs identiques à celles des Espagnols ou des Napolitains.
