Abstract

Cet article s’interroge sur les caractéristiques formelles du verset moderne, considéré comme une forme intermédiaire entre le vers libre et le poème en prose. Dans un premier temps, l’auteure s’intéresse à la composante graphique des versets (la typographie et la ponctuation). Elle aborde ensuite la question controversée de la « survie » de la tradition métrique dans la poésie moderne. Pour finir, elle s’efforce de montrer comment l’unité du verset est assurée par son organisation rythmique, phonétique et syntaxique. Une place importante est accordée aux constructions parallèles et répétitives participant à l’organisation structurelle des poèmes. Les analyses portent sur les recueils de Claudel, Saint-John Perse et Senghor.
