Abstract
La communication a pris le pas sur l’information comme principal régulateur de la médiation sociale. Le journalisme n’est plus le seul animateur mais un agent parmi d’autres du débat social et sa pratique elle-même est devenue communicationnelle. L’extension de la communication au détriment de l’information entraîne deux glissements. D’une part, elle produit un affaissement de l’éthique au moralisme. D’autre part, elle réduit l’argumentation à la simple expression de conviction. Cette double dérive survient en raison du rapport distinct à la réalité qu’entretiennent l’information et la communication. L’information procède d’un principe réaliste : elle présuppose l’existence antérieure de la réalité sur laquelle elle porte. La communication, elle, procède d’un principe constructiviste : elle instaure une nouvelle réalité.
