La bonne montagne et l'eau malfaisante. Toponymie et pratiques environnementales chez les Nahuas de basse montagne (Sierra Norte de Puebla, Mexique) Cet article explore les rapports entre les pratiques environnementales des Nahuas (qui habitent la basse montagne tropicale de la Sierra Madré Oriental, au Mexique) et leur définition du territoire par des toponymes. Nous voulons faire le pont entre les deux approches par lesquelles l'ethnologie a abordé jusqu'à présent l'étude des rapports entre les humains et leur environnement : celle qui privilégie les représentations (cosmologie et systèmes de classifications) et celle qui s'en tient aux rendements matériels comparés des activités agricoles, d'élevage ou de ramassage. Notre hypothèse n'a été qu'en partie vérifiée : plusieurs catégories de lieux, composantes des toponymes nahuas, ont certes une signification agricole (métaphore du « corps-montagne »). Cependant, un autre ensemble de catégories (le « corps-rivière ») nous renvoie à l'univers magique, tandis que les nombreuses références à la faune et à la flore ne semblent avoir qu'une fonction cognitive, celle de la différenciation de l'univers des lieux.
