Par rapport à l’article de Xenakis « Métastassis -Analyse » (2003), le matériau particulièrement abondant d’esquisses de Metastasis conservé au Département de la Musique de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France permet d’affiner la compréhension de l’écriture sérielle qui y est développée. À travers les multiples aspects que le compositeur y met en jeu, celle-ci apparaît comme une véritable maïeutique au cours de laquelle il va prendre conscience qu’il lui faut se tourner vers un autre mode d’organisation musicale, plus adapté à son projet esthétique.
