Abstract
Depuis au moins 30 ans, un cadre d'analyse historique sert à appréhender le passé du mouvement féministe aux États-Unis. Il s'agit de la dichotomie égalité-différence calquée, grosso modo, sur le débat du même nom et des deux définitions des femmes qui lui sont sous-jacentes : ou un sujet « neutre » ou un sujet « sexué ». Après avoir passé en revue l'évolution de certaines formes qu'emprunte cette dichotomie qui prend l'allure d'un véritable débat sur l'identité historique des femmes, l'auteure conclut que ce cadre d'analyse constitue une véritable idéologie qui fait écran à l'appréhension du passé du mouvement féministe. Certaines conditions d'une nouvelle conceptualisation des oppositions dans le féminisme sont émises en guise de conclusion.
