L’association locale de sauvegarde du patrimoine Terre de pierres se consacre depuis 2006 à la restauration du village abandonné de Périllos, dans les Pyrénées-Orientales françaises. Pour l’association, la reconstruction se conçoit en harmonie avec la communauté locale, l’environnement et les matériaux disponibles dans la région. Son objectif est de faire revivre le village autant que de transmettre un savoir-faire relié aux techniques de constructions rurales d’autrefois. La reconstruction du site s’effectue grâce à l’aide des bénévoles de l’union REMPART, un système qui permet d’une part à Terre de pierres de reconstruire le village sans avoir à sacrifier ses impératifs de qualité aux objectifs de rentabilité, et d’autre part d’offrir à ses participants une expérience de tourisme participatif qui vient épouser les objectifs de développement durable mis de l’avant par l’UNESCO et l’Organisation mondiale du tourisme. Cette initiative de toute petite envergure permet d’observer la viabilité d’une conciliation entre les intérêts touristiques, écologiques et patrimoniaux.
