Abstract
La mue identitaire que Marguerite de Valois entame au moment où son époux, devenu Henri IV, lui propose de divorcer, paraît avoir eu pour autre cause la rédaction de ses Mémoires, qui est exactement contemporaine de la procédure d’annulation (1593-1599). Si le « je » qu’elle y met en avant ne sait alors se définir que négativement, il est possible de repérer, dans cette oeuvre comme dans les autres, les principales figures auxquelles elle s’identifiait, tout comme celles qu’au contraire elle repoussait. Le recours à l’ensemble de ses écrits, notamment la correspondance, permet ainsi de mesurer la part de construction de ces postures et de mieux cerner les choix effectués dans la mise en scène de son oeuvre majeure.
