Abstract
À partir d'une analyse de quelques fragments d' À la recherche du temps perdu cet article propose une typologie du détail visuel dans l'écriture moderne qui annonce déjà le postmodernisme par son autoréflexivité et son jeu avec les limites du réalisme frisant l'incohérence. Les fonctions que remplit le détail en général (clinique, experte, policière et réaliste) montrent déjà une prédilection, sinon un besoin profond, pour le détail visuel. L'invocation de l'instrument d'optique chez Marcel Proust met ce besoin en relief. Au-delà du détail diégétiquement pertinent et relevant du régime réaliste, on distinguera le pan, détail qui autoréflexivement milite contre la forme de la « défigure », détail d'une catégorie tout autre, où l'autoréflexivité surdétermine la forme au point que le conflit entre les formes substitue au sens « premier », banal, le sens poétiquement efficace qui dit la lutte désespérée dans laquelle s'engage et s'embrouille le faiseur de formes plates signifiantes.
