Abstract
Pendant les trois premières décennies qui ont suivi les indépendances des années 1960, la généralisation des autoritarismes en Afrique a eu pour conséquences un retrait de la société et une fermeture de l’espace public. Mais depuis le début des années 1990, de profondes et rapides innovations se produisent sur le continent, remettant en cause la prééminence de l’État. Dans cette étude de cas portant sur l’expérience nigérienne, il s’agit d’exposer la dynamique d’individualisation et de structuration associative. Tout en reconnaissant les limites de cette dynamique mises au jour notamment par les travaux d’anthropologie politique dans les sphères locales, on peut penser qu’elle contribue à la construction d’un espace public au sens institutionnel, en disputant à l’État et aux autorités le monopole de la politique et en reconfigurant les rapports entre État et société.
