Abstract
Dans l’« Essai sur le don », Marcel Mauss présente une modalité archaïque de la relation humaine susceptible de faire la lumière sur les raisons de nos pratiques d’échange. Georg Simmel suit la même exigence à partir d’une réflexion sur la Wechselwirkung , les effets de réciprocité des rapports sociaux. Leurs recherches respectives convergent sur la question suivante : la société est-elle possible ? Les auteurs l’approfondissent à partir d’un travail sur les notions de sacrifice, de réciprocité et de durée. Elles les mènent parallèlement à reconnaître trois conditions nécessaires à l’existence de toute pratique relationnelle : la personnalisation de la relation, la régulation des pratiques relationnelles et l’engagement pour la relation. Ce faisant, Simmel et Mauss jettent les bases d’un programme de recherche contemporain en sociologie fondamentale que nous décrivons comme un interactionnisme critique, c’est-à-dire une sociologie critique de l’interaction.
