Cet article présente un modèle didactique descriptif de la production orale en classe de français langue première au secondaire au Québec. Ce modèle considère la production orale sous deux angles : comme médium et comme objet d’enseignement. Une recherche qualitative a été réalisée afin de voir dans quelle mesure les pratiques des enseignants entrent en relation avec les composantes des modèles théoriques. L’analyse des données met en lumière les habiletés de certains à enseigner l’oral de façon systématique. De plus, elle met en lumière le besoin grandissant de pistes d’enseignement et d’évaluation de la production orale. Ces résultats nous ont permis de développer le modèle descriptif que nous présentons.
