Résumé Si depuis une quinzaine d’années, les publications scientifiques sur l’optimisme sont considérables dans le domaine de la psychologie générale, elles sont toutefois peu nombreuses dans le domaine sportif. Ainsi, dans l’intérêt de favoriser l’avancement des connaissances sur ce sujet dans le domaine du sport, cet article présente une synthèse de la littérature scientifique nord-américaine sur l’optimisme. Plus précisément, nous présentons les deux approches théoriques sur l’optimisme ayant reçu le plus d’attention des chercheurs au cours des trente dernières années. Ensuite, une vue d’ensemble des limites des études sur l’optimisme est exposée et des orientations pour de futures recherches en psychologie du sport sont proposées.
