Dans cet article, l’auteure analyse le concept de la médiation culturelle à l’aune des conceptions de l’engagement chez les artistes actuels en arts visuels du Québec adoptant des pratiques relationnelles et participatives. Est-ce que des liens peuvent être tissés entre la médiation culturelle et l’art engagé ? Quelles sont les similitudes et les différences ? Ces interrogations seront examinées à l’aide d’une analyse comparative des éléments suivants : les définitions de l’engagement et de la médiation culturelle, la conjoncture culturelle et sociopolitique, le rôle de l’artiste et de son oeuvre, ainsi que le rapport institutionnel.
