La prégnance du savoir expert et la standardisation accrue des grilles d’enquête et d’analyse dans le domaine de la santé publique, par exemple, dont celui de la santé mentale, est une pièce centrale dans l’organisation technocratique des sociétés actuelles. Au sortir de la machine à broyer des données sensibles, c’est un portrait « sanitarisé » qui émerge pour plutôt marquer un ensemble de plus en plus étendu de manques, de risques et de problèmes, toujours plus individualisés, voire biologisés. L’oeuvre de Michel Foucault, notamment son analyse du savoir psychiatrique, montre comment ce processus a pour effet d’invalider d’autres savoirs, d’autres sens à donner à des réalités humaines et sociales, et d’aseptiser ce qui fabrique les problèmes, contribuant ainsi à l’affaiblissement du politique. Son oeuvre est riche d’enseignement pour voir le microfonctionnement du pouvoir à travers l’invalidation des savoirs ordinaires ; elle l’est aussi pour voir les conditions d’émergence de savoirs ordinaires, non pas tant comme vérité, mais comme contre-pouvoir au savoir dominant.
