Abstract
Se basant sur les données de l’Enquête longitudinale auprès des immigrants du Canada, cette étude examine d’abord les raisons pour lesquelles les nouveaux immigrants ont quitté leur région d’établissement, et cherche à mieux comprendre les mécanismes par lesquels les migrations secondaires agissent sur la répartition des immigrants sur le territoire. Les résultats montrent que les motivations en lien avec le travail ou les études priment, mais que la présence d’amis et de membres de la famille est un facteur important dans le choix d’un lieu de destination. Les migrants des régions traditionnellement moins prisées par les immigrants sont proportionnellement plus nombreux à partir pour trouver un emploi ou de meilleures possibilités d’emploi que ceux en provenance d’autres régions. De plus, les migrants motivés par cette même raison ont une propension plus faible à s’établir dans une région à faible densité d’immigrants, comparativement à ceux ayant migré pour d’autres raisons.
