Abstract
Patients : Les patients admissibles a l’etude etaient des hommes et des femmes âges entre 35 et 75 ans et ayant une coronaropathie clinique definie par la presence d’au moins un des criteres suivants : antecedent d’infarctus du myocarde, antecedent ou presence d’angine avec evidence objective de maladie coronarienne atherosclerotique ou antecedent de revascularisation coronarienne. Les criteres d’exclusion etaient les suivants : une hypersensibilite aux statines; une maladie active du foie ou une dysfonction hepatique definie comme un taux d’alanine aminotransferase ou d’asparate aminotranferase >1,5 fois la limite normale superieure; les femmes enceintes ou allaitantes; les patients atteints d’un syndrome nephrotique; un diabete mellitus non controle; une hypothyroidie non controlee; une hypertension non controlee; un infarctus du myocarde, une revascularisation coronarienne ou une angine grave/instable survenant pendant le premier mois de selection; toute procedure chirurgicale prevue pour le traitement d’atherosclerose; une fraction d’ejection 6 fois la limite normale superieure et inexplique; une therapie concomitante a long terme avec des immunosuppresseurs; une therapie concomitante avec des agents regulant le profil lipidique non specifies comme un traitement actif dans le cadre du protocole; une histoire d’abus d’alcool; et une participation concurrente dans une autre etude clinique ou a l’interieur des 30 jours avant la selection. De plus, pour etre admis dans l’etude, les patients devaient completer une periode d’essai de huit semaines durant laquelle ils recevaient de l’atorvastatine 10 mg. Apres cette periode d’essai, les patients ayant eu un taux moyen de cLDL < 3,4 mmol/L (aux 4 et 6 semaines) etaient admissibles a la randomisation.
