brian norman is Assistant Professor of English and Director of Women's Studies at Idaho State University where he specializes in twentieth-century literature, especially African American, feminist, and multiethnic u.s. literatures. His current research examines contemporary literary representations of race segregation. He is guest editor of a forthcoming special issue of African American Review, on Representing Segregation. He is the author of The American Protest Essay and National Belonging: Addressing Division (suny Press, 2007), and recent articles have appeared in African American Review, Canadian Review of American Studies, Frontiers,melus, and Women's Studies.
