Abstract
This book is a hybrid between a concise handbook and a comprehensive reference book. Each chapter covers enough detail without the distractions of impractical research findings and summarizes the pediatric data in tabular form. The concise yet comprehensive nature of the book translates into practicality for both the busy clinician and researcher and will not just sit on the bookshelf collecting dust. The chapters are not heavily footnoted, which adds to their ease of use. Each chapter has a comprehensive list of citations in the Bibliography, should the reader want more information. The book is divided into three parts. Part I consists of an introduction to the field of pediatric psychopharmacology, a brief overview of basic pharmacology, and general principles of treatment in pediatric psychopharmacology. Part II consists of an overview of each psychotropic used in youth, with well-organized summaries of medication characteristics in standardized text and tabular formats. Part III discusses each disorder in pediatric psychiatry and summarizes the literature regarding the use of medications for each disorder.
