Abstract
Cet article pose des jalons théoriques en vue de comprendre dans quel sens la catéchèse scolaire à l’élémentaire risque de constituer une entrave au développement intellectuel. La présentation du programme de l’enseignement religieux au cycle élémentaire laisse voir des liens de parenté avec le concept de dogmatisme. Un exposé partiel du processus d’équilibration (Piaget) indique qu’un enseignement religieux précoce risque de contrecarrer le développement des structures cognitives. La catéchèse est présentée comme un contenu qui n’a rien de scolaire. On insiste surtout sur le fait que les enfants du primaire ne possèdent pas les structures cognitives pour assimiler un tel contenu. Qui plus est, sa présentation est susceptible de contribuer à retarder l’accès à la pensée formelle qui permet justement d’assimiler un tel contenu.
