Les guerres modernes entraînent des impacts environnementaux dont l’ampleur, la complexité et les conséquences à long terme dépassent souvent les dommages immédiats et visibles des interventions militaires. La protection ou la restauration des écosystèmes apparaissent comme des enjeux d’autant plus fondamentaux pour les relations internationales que, comme le montrent un nombre croissant de recherches, les déséquilibres environnementaux peuvent contribuer de façon significative à l’occurrence de nouveaux conflits. Cependant, la prise en compte des questions environnementales est souvent absente des opérations internationales de consolidation de la paix, surtout centrées sur des aspects humanitaires, économiques et sociopolitiques. Cet article propose un cadre d’analyse pour favoriser cette prise en compte en amont et en aval des interventions militaires en soulignant le rôle de la sécurité environnementale dans la prévention des conflits internationaux.
