Abstract
En prenant comme espace de réflexion une recherche de terrain menée auprès des internautes qui socialisent dans les espaces d’échange en temps réel d’Internet, cet article propose une réflexion autour de quelques-unes des difficultés que pose la délimitation des frontières théoriques, disciplinaires et épistémologiques dans la pratique des terrains contemporains et de l’ethnologie du proche. Lorsque l’objet d’étude est un terrain non-spatialisé, est-il encore possible (et comment ?) de le circonscrire et de le baliser ? Comment peut-on penser une singularité disciplinaire dans un espace d’investigation où une multitude de disciplines, qui partagent souvent leurs méthodes et leurs a priori épistémologiques, se rencontrent, se croisent ou se superposent ? Enfin, dans quel espace épistémologique l’ethnologue du proche peut-il situer son analyse et sa démarche, alors qu’il enquête dans un univers qu’il partage avec ses participants et en regard duquel ceux-ci ont, bien avant lui, élaboré un ensemble de discours et de lectures permettant de lui donner sens ? À travers un cas concret, l’auteure propose une manière d’appréhender certaines de ces frontières et de circonscrire plus étroitement les questionnements auxquels l’ethnologue du proche et du contemporain doit faire face.
