Résumé Cet article analyse la qualification juridique du voile intégral porté par les femmes usagères des services publics canadiens. Questionnant les modalités par lesquelles l’État se saisit de l’objet « voile intégral » dans différentes sociétés occidentales, l’article postule que la traduction juridique de ce vêtement comme « objet religieux » est nécessaire à une pleine garantie de la liberté de conscience et de religion par les tribunaux. Empruntant au droit constitutionnel et à la théorie du droit, l’article analyse ensuite le traitement juridique de cet objet religieux à partir du cadre d’analyse formulé par la Cour suprême du Canada dans l’affaire NS .
