L'pistolaire est pour Benot Melanon la fois la spcialit et un violon d'Ingres. Son livre Diderot pistolier (1996) lui a valu ses lettres de crance au cnacle des dix-huitimistes, tandis que son essai Sevigne@internet, publi la mme anne, analysait finement les nouveaux modes pistolaires en s'appuyant sur le recul que lui donne sa frquentation des classiques.
