En 1987, Jean Lahougue publiait La Doublure de Magrite , roman construit sur un système de contraintes génératives dont l’une le conduisit à pasticher la série des Maigret . Georges Simenon s’étant catégoriquement opposé à la publication du livre, Jean Lahougue dut rebaptiser son protagoniste et partiellement modifier son ouvrage. J’étudie la façon dont le veto simenonien a paradoxalement rendu un signalé service à Jean Lahougue, lui permettant non seulement d’enrichir le sens de son roman, mais encore d’en faciliter l’accès aux lecteurs par l’élaboration d’un très ingénieux péritexte. L’analyse des divers éléments péritextuels, qui entre séduction, information et pédagogie préludent aux lectures imminentes, favorise la mise en évidence de la remarquable productivité de la contrainte – fût-elle allographe.
