Abstract
Les anthropologues sont fascinés depuis longtemps par les différentes formes d’échange. Cet article, fondé sur une recherche de terrain dans trois villages autochtones taïwanais, s’intéresse aux différents moyens d’échange utilisés par les femmes qui tiennent des échoppes. Plutôt que de s’identifier elles-mêmes comme des entrepreneures, la plupart d’entre elles considèrent qu’elles apportent leur contribution à la famille et à la communauté. À l’inverse des Chinois han, elles peuvent s’appuyer sur une histoire dans laquelle les femmes possédaient des biens issus des gains de leur propre travail et jouaient donc un rôle social. Les femmes qui tiennent des magasins continuent à acquérir du pouvoir politique et social de par leur travail, qui participe à la circulation des biens, en particulier grâce à la dimension politique qu’occupent leurs échoppes dans l’espace social du village. Le profit ne constitue en rien le motif premier de leurs activités économiques, et leur travail vient s’inscrire dans un contexte social et politique toujours plus large.
