Abstract
The Statement of Us is a narrative-based practice that assists couples in establishing and enhancing their relationship identity. Initially through externalization of the relationship, couples are able to examine their preferred relationship as opposed to a problematic relationship. The Statement of Us practice provides a format for introducing this externalization in a way that emphasizes the couple's strengths, intentions, and identity. The practice also results in a documenting of their preferred relationship identity. We describe the practice as well as offer statements from couples who found the process to be beneficial to their relationship.
