Abstract
La lente maturation de la lexicographie au Québec depuis plus d’un siècle permet d’établir un bilan caractérisé par la présence du purisme, d’un certain normativisme, de la correction de la faute linguistique et de la chasse à l’anglicisme surtout de 1880 à 1960. Dans la période subséquente (1960-1987), dans le sillage de travaux de nature dialectologique, de compilations marquées au coin de l’amateurisme ou de véritables produits lexicographiques se dégage peu à peu la nécessité de produire un dictionnaire du français québécois de nature différentielle, basé sur des recherches historico-descriptives systématiques. Après l’époque de l’épuration d’une langue mâtinée d’anglais, suivie d’une période axée sur sa description, la communauté lexicographique québécoise est prête à entrer dans l’ère de la comparaison de sa langue avec celle de la communauté francophone.
