Abstract
Cet article porte sur l’enseignement de certaines matières dans l’histoire récente de l’éducation au Québec. Cet enseignement illustre les tensions qui existent entre les fonctions herméneutique et critique de la culture, mais également entre celles-ci et un certain pragmatisme social qui exige que l’école subvienne aux besoins économiques, dont ceux de la mondialisation, et sociaux, dont l’élection de valeurs communes en contexte pluraliste. L’examen de ces rapports entre les fonctions critique et herméneutique de la culture, les conséquences de l’hypertrophie de l’une par rapport à l’autre, la transformation de la pensée critique dans le contexte de la mondialisation des marchés et, enfin, la transmutation des questions de sens dans une société pluraliste montrent comment la culture scolaire évolue face aux pressions sociales et économiques.
