Abstract
Cet article traite de l’identité de la discipline des relations internationales. Il avance trois arguments : d’abord que puisque cette identité a traditionnellement été dépendante du concept d’État, les énoncés qui remettent en question l’État représentent simultanément un défi pour l’intégrité intellectuelle de la discipline ; ensuite que la résurgence récente de ces défis s’est traduite par une division entre des énoncés radicalement différents du domaine international et de ce qui se passait dans ce domaine ; enfin, que les efforts pour prendre en main les problèmes sous-jacents de l’ontologie sociale n’ont pas été couronnés de succès principalement en raison de l’usage sélectif que la discipline a fait des découvertes associées à la philosophie du langage et au tournant linguistique. L’article conclut en proposant quelques suggestions pour corriger la situation.
