Abstract
À travers les deux expériences de recherche (Malaisie, 1978-1992 ; Angleterre, 1998- ) qui composent son parcours, l’auteur considère permanences et transformations dans ses positionnements sur le terrain. En privilégiant la perception réciproque informateurs-enquêteur et la notion de distance, elle évoque les changements dans sa démarche ethnographique : plutôt « positiviste » en Malaisie, celle-ci visait surtout à recueillir des données « représentatives » et « généralisables » ; en Angleterre, l’observation accorde la même importance dans les récits des informateurs aux usages partagés qu’aux trajectoires et perceptions singulières. Le changement de perspective du chercheur est un écho aux interrogations qui ont traversé la discipline depuis 1980.
