Cet article rend compte des représentations que se font les enseignants du primaire de la dimension culturelle du curriculum, sous l’angle de leur compréhension de la culture et celui des manières de l’intégrer, telles qu’elles se dégagent de données d’une enquête menée au printemps 2000. L’analyse révèle une compréhension diversifiée et bipolarisée de la culture; le rejet d’une conception élitiste, l’importance accordée à la culture immédiate de l’élève et à l’ouverture au monde témoignent d’un souci de rendre la culture accessible à tous. Les manières d’intégrer la dimension culturelle sont également variées, mais relèvent essentiellement de contenus à véhiculer plutôt que de stratégies d’enseignement, et comme soutien aux apprentissages plutôt que comme éléments du programme.
