Ce travail vise à souligner l’impact des chablis sur la pédogénèse et à contribuer ainsi à une meilleure interprétation des données pédologiques dont les datations au radiocarbone. Les effets de ce phénomène sont illustrés au moyen de coupes de sol pratiquées sous l’érablière à bouleau jaune. Les résultats de la datation de la matière organique de trois échantillons de sol, prélevés à environ 1 à 2 m les uns des autres dans la partie supérieure de l’horizon B, indiquent des âges apparents variant de 1260 années BP à 2430 années BP. Cette discontinuité dans les âges obtenus confirme l’énoncé de BROWN (1977), à savoir que l’âge des sols forestiers varie beaucoup entre des points très rapprochés à la suite du rajeunissement continuel du sol sous forêt par le chablis. Il devient donc important de bien considérer ce dernier phénomène dans l’interprétation des datations au radiocarbone, que ce soit pour des études pédogénétiques ou paléo-pédologiques.
