Résumé Le rapport au temps des vieilles personnes est orienté à la fois par la singularité de leur situation dans le dernier cycle du parcours de vie, par le sentiment d’avoir vécu (duré) et d’être plus proches de la mort, ainsi que par l’expérience d’une « étrangeté » au monde, relayée par le regard social. Ces expériences diverses, selon le genre et la place sociale notamment, selon la position dans le parcours de vie, s’accompagnent de stratégies, d’arts de faire qui consistent à plus ou moins bien négocier avec le temps qui passe, avec les transitions biographiques et relationnelles. Il s’agit de se maintenir dans le monde tout en s’en éloignant, de donner du sens à sa vie au regard de la succession des générations.
