L'avenir de la guerre a été probablement l'un des thèmes les plus débattus en relations internationales durant la dernière décennie. Le but du présent article est de proposer une vue d'ensemble de ce débat, une revue critique de la littérature qui puisse en faciliter la compréhension et l'analyse. L'article lui-même comporte deux parties. Dans la première, les prévisions de type systémique sont examinées ; dans la seconde, il est fait état des analyses sociopolitiques des conflits dans l'après-guerre froide (guerre, État et société). La conclusion de cet essai propose quelques réflexions sur l'avenir de la guerre, ainsi que sur l'avenir de la discipline des études polémologiques.
