La recherche sur le contrôle de gestion dans les PME a connu un fort développement depuis 2000. Mais alors que des travaux ont développé une approche par le cycle de vie (orientant leurs recherches sur les firmes en démarrage ou en début de croissance), peu de travaux francophones ont repris cette approche. Ce papier restitue ainsi une synthèse des recherches sur le contrôle de gestion dans les PME intégrant une approche par la taille et une approche par le cycle de vie. Nous concluons sur le fait qu’il y a beaucoup d’opportunités pour les chercheurs qui souhaitent étudier le contrôle de gestion dans les PME. L’approche par la taille peut encore être poursuivie tandis que la vision par le cycle de vie devrait être davantage mobilisée.
