Les changements entrepris il y a plus de dix ans au Québec visent à assouplir le fonctionnement organisationnel des institutions éducatives et reposent sur le développement de l’autonomie professionnelle du personnel scolaire. On s’intéresse ici à l’actualisation d’un leadership distribué dans les établissements scolaires en se demandant si ce leadership a été favorisé ou endigué par les dernières réformes. Sur la base d’études quantitatives et d’études de cas, le texte aboutit à deux éléments de réponse. D’une part, les réformes organisationnelles semblent avoir offert des conditions favorables à la distribution de l’influence au sein des écoles et au développement d’une coresponsabilité dans la gestion des établissements. D’autre part, cependant, l’analyse de l’activité réelle des directeurs et directrices montre que cette actualisation d’un leadership distribué rencontre de nombreux obstacles que le texte s’efforce d’identifier et d’interpréter.
