Ein Schmelzprozess ermöglichte die Synthese der ersten catena‐Hexaphosphor‐Dikationen, die N. Burford, J. J. Weigand et al. in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 6885 ff. beschreiben. Das Titelbild (von Jared MacPherson) zeigt ein Photo der Reaktionsschmelze aus 4/5 (PhP)5, 2 Ph2PCl und 2 GaCl3 bei 100 °C, die bei weiterem Erhitzen unter quantitativer Bildung von [P6Ph8][GaCl4]2 erstarrt. Derartige Kationen repräsentieren eine neue Richtung in der Phosphorchemie: die Suche nach einer Parallele zur (organischen) catena‐Kohlenstoff‐Chemie.
