Abstract
Cet article se propose de donner quelques éléments de réponse et de réflexion à la question du rôle des immigrantes dans le développement de la région de Sherbrooke. Les points saillants des politiques d'immigration et de régionalisation de l'immigration au Québec et un rapide portrait socio-économique et migratoire de l'Estrie sont d'abord présentés. Par la suite, les auteures analysent l'image des femmes immigrantes, telle qu'elle est perçue par des organismes publics et communautaires (travail, famille, santé), ainsi que leurs pratiques auprès de ces femmes. Enfin, les auteures mettent en contraste ces représentations et pratiques avec les stratégies d'insertion mises en oeuvre quotidiennement par des femmes immigrantes.
