La stratification des matières scolaires chez les enseignants du primaire au Québec: évolution ou stabilité des représentations depuis 1981

Abstract
Cet article fait état de l'évolution, de 1981 à 1998, des représentations sociales d'enseignants québécois du primaire relatives à la hiérarchisation des matières scolaires qui forment le curriculum de l'enseignement primaire. Les résultats, qui découlent plus particulièrement de trois recherches menées durant les années quatre-vingt-dix, montrent l'existence d'une forte stratification des matières scolaires où le français et les mathématiques occupent une position hégémonique, quel que soit l'angle d'approche considéré: l'importance des matières scolaires, la distinction entre matières de base et matières secondaires, le temps d'enseignement, la complémentarité entre les matières scolaires. L'existence d'une relation entre la hiérarchisation des matières et les conceptions sociales de la formation d'un élève du primaire est alors mise en évidence.
