Abstract
Doctors will be required to provide more smoking cessation services as part of a new government target to halve the number of smokers in England. The Department of Health this week announced a new tobacco control strategy that aims to halve the number of smokers in the population from 21% to 10% by 2020. The guidance will build on efforts over the past decade that cut the number of people who smoke by a quarter.
