La majorité des travaux sur les stresseurs ont porté sur les événements de vie passés. La présente recherche s'intéresse, en plus, aux événements anticipés. Les événements sont mesurés avec le Life Events and Difficulties Schedule dit LEDS (Brown et Harris, 1978). Les caractéristiques des événements anticipés: nombre, domaine de vie et valence (positive, négative ou neutre) sont comparées à celles des événements vécus. Pour illustrer la percée du LEDS dans le domaine des événements anticipés, le contexte de l'infertilité est retenu. Trente-cinq couples et sept femmes sans leur conjoint, qui tentent de concevoir un enfant, sont recrutés dans deux cliniques de la région de Québec. Les résultats montrent que les événements anticipés sont moins nombreux que les événements vécus. De plus, la proportion d'événements négatifs anticipés est moins élevée que la proportion d'événements négatifs vécus. Pourtant, dans les douze derniers mois, les sujets ont vécu un nombre significativement plus élevé d'événements négatifs que d'événements positifs. La possibilité d'un biais cognifif positif en regard du futur chez cet échantillon est discutée, l'utilité de la capacité à anticiper, également.
