Dans ce texte, premier de deux volets sur la question du narcissisme, l’auteur témoigne de réflexions élaborées tout au long de son parcours clinique sur les pathologies de la personnalité narcissique et sur la nécessité de prendre en compte les difficultés défiant dans ce contexte, les méthodes de psychothérapie. Ce premier volet est consacré à la métapsychologie du narcissisme, telle qu’élaborée d’abord par Freud, puis à la lumière de contributions contemporaines dont celle de Kernberg en particulier. L’auteur souligne la pertinence d’envisager également le narcissisme dans ses dimensions saines et nécessaires à la vie psychique.
