L’auteur présente tout d’abord un aperçu des démarches ethnographiques entreprises dans le contexte d’un partenariat avec la communauté métisse francophone du Manitoba. Ces recherches portent sur les rapports complexes qui se sont tissés entre la mémoire, l’identité et le paysage nommé, marqué et parcouru. Dans cet article, les propos recueillis au cours d’entrevues serviront de base à l’étude de pratiques traditionnelles toujours vivantes : chasse, pêche, cueillette et alimentation. La préservation du patrimoine naturel et culturel selon les perspectives, les témoignages et les interventions des Métis en milieux urbain et rural fait également l’objet d’une attention particulière. Les résultats de ces recherches de type ethno-géographique révèlent des savoir-faire et des manières d’être fidèles aux traditions ancestrales, qui sauront inspirer les jeunes ainsi que les prochaines générations. Enfin, les lecteurs sont conviés à une réflexion au sujet d’activités et de célébrations proposées par la communauté métisse et d’une intervention d’inspiration autochtone qui a été organisée en vue de créer un rapprochement entre les milieux universitaire, scolaire et communautaire.
