Abstract
De nombreux élèves terminent le primaire avec un niveau d’engagement très faible envers la lecture. Or, selon plusieurs auteurs (Guthrie et Wigfield, 2000; Stanovich, 1986; Turcotte, 2007) cet engagement contribue à la réussite en lecture. L’objectif de cette étude est de décrire ce phénomène du non-engagement vécu par certains élèves du primaire afin de mieux comprendre les expériences marquantes ayant nui à leur engagement. Des entretiens phénoménologiques réalisés auprès de six élèves de la 6e année identifiés comme non-engagés en lecture ont permis de mettre en lumière leurs expériences négatives vécues dans une variété de contextes, ainsi que des expériences positives n’ayant pas été suffisantes pour susciter un engagement à long terme.
