Abstract
Dans le sud du Chili, depuis les années 1990 et l’enclenchement de la « transition à la démocratie », on a assisté à la multiplication d’actions de protestation mapuche, principal peuple indien du Chili, autour de la revendication de droits territoriaux et fonciers. Ces actions défiant la propriété privée et la légalité ont vite été catégorisées comme l’expression d’un « nouveau radicalisme indigène » par la presse, et sanctionnées par la multiplication d’actions en justice contre leurs supposés auteurs, labéllisés comme « extrémistes », voire « terroristes ». Le présent article s’attache, à partir de l’évolution des mobilisations mapuche, à montrer que la radicalité n’est pas une essence et qu’elle doit avant tout être appréhendée comme une lutte de classement.
